I feel like I’ve been duped. I had this notion that making chocolate was more or less outside the realm of possibility for someone like me: busy, rather penurious, health conscious, and lacking culinary training. Turns out I couldn’t have been more wrong. This is all you need to make amazing chocolate:
And if you have a few stray almonds in your pantry, or a jar of peanut butter, you can get wild.
Each of these is startlingly delicious. And incredibly easy and fast to create. Recipe adapted from The Detoxinista
Ingredients (per large chocolate “bar”)
2 Tbsp melted coconut oil
2 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 tsp honey, plus a little extra to taste (you can make the chocolate as sweet or as bitter as you like it. 1/2 tsp will be nice and bitter, like a serious dark chocolate lover appreciates. Just a bit more honey goes a long way).
Ad-ins: chopped nuts, dried fruit, salt, spices, nut butter
Measure the coconut oil into a small bowl.
Stir in the honey, mixing well.
Stir in the cocoa powder, stirring until everything is mixed and smooth.
If you’re adding mix ins, you can stir them in now.
Spread your chocolate into a container of your choice. I made two different “bars”, and used tart tins because I find myself without parchment paper (oh my!) You can use whatever you like. Place the containers in the freezer for 20 minutes or so, and then sample! (Store in fridge once set).
